Panzerabwehrebüchse 39 - WWII Era German Military Issue

Panzerabwehrebüchse 39 - Arore/tank Defense Rifle 39.  This is for the German 8 mm x 94 mm German cartridge, which shot an 8mm caliber bullet, but had a huge brass shell 94 mm in length. (Standard 8mm Mauser cartridges were 57 mm long). The high powder volume enabled a muzzle velocity of about 4,000 feet per second, which was sufficient to penetrate early war armor, but would not penetrate tank armor for later model tanks. 28 pages with disassembly, assembly, and how the gun works. 8.5" x 5.5".

G43 / K43 Buttstock Manual - WW2 Military Issue

Karabiner 43 (K 43) mit Gewehr-Zielfernrohr 4-fach - Karabiner 43 (K 43) with 4 Power Telescopic Sight.  This is the 1944 dated little manual to be rolled up inside the buttstock of the G 43 or K 43 semi auto rifle.  At about 4"W x 3"H, it is surprisingly informative with 32 pages.  This is the later buttstock manual, with the extra 2 page appendix explaining the disassembly of the late K43 that was made without the external, right rear mounted bolt hold-open catch.
As with the above manual, this contains very little information about the telescopic sight, regardless of the title.

SKS Operator Manual - East German   

DV-20/1a 7.62-mm Selbstladekarabiners - SKS Operator Manual.  This 1958 East German military manual explains the operation and care of the SKS semi-auto rifle.  This very well illustrated manual contains 80 pages of exceptional detail on cleaning (such as how to clean the gas piston and use of the buttstock cleaning kit), complete disassembly, sight adjustment, and trouble shooting.  A typically thorough German manual, now available in English.  When the generic SKS manuals have 10-20 pages, and this one has 80 pages, doesn't it make you wonder what you're missing?  The SKS repair manual (below) is the brother to this manual.

SKS Repair Manual - East German

DV-40/11 Anleitung zur Instandsetzung des 7.62-mm Slebstladekarabiners - SKS armorer's repair manual.  This 120 page East German manual explains the repair on the SKS semi-auto rifle in great detail.  Troubleshooting is handled in depth, from simple things like the gun won't feed, to how to properly headspace the bolt.  As is typical with the East German repair manuals, dimensioned drawings and spring sizes are shown for the armorer to be able to make his own replacement parts.  It even shows how to make the springs and lists annealing temperatures for them.  This is a fine manual for repairing one of the million or so SKS rifles imported into the U.S.  The above operator manual is recommended to be paired with the repair manual, as the repair manual doesn't cover the basics contained in the operator manual.  These were made to be used as a set, as there is no duplication of information, and the reference names and part numbers are consistent in both manuals.

Small Caliber Basic Shooting Instruction Manual - Denckler

Das Kleinkaliber Schießen - Small Caliber Shooting.  This Denckler manual is written specifically for the DSM 34 small caliber rifle, which was the .22 long rifle caliber, single shot, bolt action, Sport Model rifle.  It duplicates some of the points in the basic shooting manual above (bullet trajectory, proper aiming), but also has details specific to the Sport Model rifle (bolt disassembly, loading, etc.).  A nice little manual for explaining the basics of the gun and .22 caliber cartridge. 30 pages with 20 illustrations.

Firearm 98 Operator's Manual - Schmitt

Die Schußwaffen 98 (Kar. 98k, b, a, Gew. 98) - The Firearm 98 (Kar. 98k, b, a, Gew. 98).  Schmitt published some very fine private purchase manuals for the Soldiers.  They were expected to buy these manuals with their own money, as these were not military issued.  This is 1940 dated manual has 27 pages of basic instruction for the disassembly and cleaning of the Mauser 98 series of rifles, including several illustrations detailing bolt disassembly using the stock disk, and a nice fold-out picture in the back which names the parts of the weapon.  The fold-out  picture is the same picture as the DV 103/2 manual below, but this is in black and white instead of color.  It also has a chart showing how to identify the different bullets and cartridges, headstamps, primer sealant color, weights of the bullets, and muzzle velocities.  Also explains the use of the 5.6 mm cleaning kit and proper cleaning of the 5.6 caliber conversion.  This manual does not contain sight pictures and how to shoot the rifle.  The Denckler General Shooting Instruction manual above is better for that.

K 98k Operator's Manual - WW2 Era Military Issue

H.Dv. 257 - Schußwaffen 98 - Firearm 98 - This manual was originally published in 1935, but had 15 revisions along the way which updated it to January of 1944.  This manual was in effect when the Gewehr 98, 98a, 98b, and K98k were all still being used by the German military.  The book states that it applies to all of them.  A table is at the back of the book showing each rifle in a top and side view, with another table showing some of the individual parts.  This manual matched up with the 3' x 4' rifle poster that was used for classroom instruction, and refers to the letters/numbers of the parts on the table, which also matches the partial table of parts at the back of the book.  22 pages of solid text, 10 pages of pictures.  A very informative manual about how the gun works.

Denckler Manual - Der Karabiner - This is a translation of a surprisingly detailed manual for the standard service rifle of the WWII German forces, the Mauser 98k.  I estimate the original publication date of this manual in the 1934-1935 range, but this Denckler manual was in publication for many years after that.  This manual explains bullet trajectories and the influences of wind, how to clean the rifle, proper sighting and body positions for sitting, kneeling, prone, and a whole lot more.  41 pages plus two cutaway views of the rifle.  See also the Cleaning and Maintenance manual below.

Luger Operator's Manual - WW2 era Military Issue

Luger Repair Manual - WW2 Military Issue

H.Dv. 181/5 - Untersuchung und Instandsetzung der Pistole 08 - Inspection and Repair of the Pistol 08 (Luger) - This manual  will carry the same warning that the other WWII weapon repair manuals have:  You need to know the names of the parts before you try to make sense of this manual.  Several lines of comments have been added to explain disassembly, so you don't need to be an armorer to understand what is being said, but you do need to know the part names.  If you're not certain what the sear bar is and where it goes, you'll need to get the H.Dv. 255 Luger operator's manual (above) along with this manual.  H.Dv. 255 has pictures of all the parts and their names, and is an excellent manual for understanding how the pistol operates.  For those who find pictures helpful, The Pistol 08 and its Handling (above) does a fine job illustrating the basics of operation, but doesn't have a parts list.
Though this manual is only 12 pages (8.5"H x 5.5"W), with small type and no pictures, there is plenty of room for a lot of good information that  isn't available anywhere else.  Even if you never intend to have to repair a Luger, having the instructions on how to inspect the pistol and replace parts such as the ejector or how to remove the sear bar make this manual a must have.

9-mm-Pistole Makarow Instandsetzung - 9 mm Makarov Pistol Repair.  This 1974 dated East German repair manual for the 9x18 Makarov pistol shows how to replace the barrel, how to correct problems with the trigger system, safety, and magazine, and also has an in depth section on troubleshooting and how to fix the problems.  This 80 page, well-illustrated manual thoroughly covers what can go wrong, and how to fix it  As usual for a German or East German repair manual, there are lots of part pictures to show how to fix it and where to file or correct a misshaped part.  The AK47 Tool Kit manual (on the MG Manuals page) shows several pictures of the repair fixtures in use on this pistol, and makes a very good supplement for it.
